Vatakara Police Station was opened in 1870 with the strength of 1 HC & 4PCs as an OP of Thalassery PS. Later in 1890 Vatakara Police station was formed under the Circle Inspector Of Police Thalassery and Dy. Supdt. of Thalassery. The exact date of opening of Vatakara Police station is not available. It is seen from the old records that Vatakara was the head quarter of the old Kurumbranad Circle up to the year 1924. And on 28.03.91 Vatakara Police Station was shifted to the new building as per GO (Rt) 7475/90 Home dated 20.12.90.Before that the Police Station was functioning in the old building near the sub jail Vatakara.

Thacholi Othenan’s House

Thacholi Meppayil Kunjhu Othenan (Udayana Kurup of Thacholi Manikoth House) or more popularly Thacholi Othenan was a legendary hero from North Kerala, a small state in south India, who lived in the 16th century. Highly stylised songs and stories of his valour and chivalry abound. His real name was Udayana Kurup. Even the powerful Zamorin of Calicut respected him. He defeated Kadhirur Gurukkal in ankam (dual/war) and killed him. But one of the Gurukkal’s disciples killed Othenan through treachery at the young age of 32."Othenan" whose birth place is Manikoth near Meppayil. Vadakara

Sand banks is the place where Kuttiady river joins Arabian Sea.There is a beautiful bunglow of Birla Group which was constructed by the British.Now a days many tourists from other countries and states are using to visit the Sand Banks and the bunglow at evening to view the beauty of sunset here.The newly sanctioned Coastal Police Station at Vatakara is also situated at Sand Banks.
